Parlez-vous français?

Salut! Comment vas-tu? Or in English, Hi! How are you?

First of all, sorry that I did not post last week. I shan’t bore you with the details but it was the result of my mental health being a little low and the fact that I barely slept at all. I was in no fit state to write. BUT this week, I am back and better than ever the same as I was before. What have I been up to, you might (or might not) be asking. Well, sit back, put your feet up and relax. I shall regale you with my tale.

As you may have guessed from the blog title and my numerous posts about the subject, I am currently living in Korea. I take a Korean language class twice a week for an hour and a half. So naturally, I have made the decision to re-learn the French I should remember from school (and more). I am not really sure what prompted me to do this (apart from a love of the language) and I am aware that it makes less than George Osborne’s plans for financial recovery in the UK (just a little politics jokes there for all you nerds like me). So far, it is going well. And happens to be having the unexpected result of taking my mind off of my depression and allowing me to relax a little more which can only be a good thing.

I have also made the decision to start writing again. I used to write a lot (poetry, mostly) and fell out of that just before I came to Korea. I write this blog once or twice a week, and occasionally write on my personal blog over on Tumblr but that doesn’t really satisfy my creative writing needs. I am hoping this will help me shake off some of the stress I have been feeling recently. Trying to sleep when your brain is running faster than a speeding car is doomed to fail and often I find myself unconsciously writing in my mind anyway.

Third, I will (finally) start taking a good amount of pictures both for my blog(s) and just as a hobby. I enjoy it and this is a good chance to practice photography so I can actually get good at it (check out my Instagram for a mixture of personal and Korean stuff). I will post a link here in due time if I decide to have a dedicated Instagram/VSCO page for my Korean photographs. As you may see from this post, I am tired of not having any productive interests or hobbies (I enjoy listening to music, reading and playing games but none of that is productive).

One of the only photographs I have taken recently.

I should (at somepoint within the next month or so) also be heading to Seoul with a few friends to check out the Museum of Contemporary Art and a Jazz club. Those of you who read this (and know me in real life) will be aware that I love jazz. It is amazing music and I don’t often get to see it played live. Again, I shall post tales of my (mis)adventures here in due course.

Apart from that, I have just been relaxing at home. It is currently a good week if I have slept 8 hours by Friday and the insomnia is leaving me completely wiped after a full day of teaching my boys.

So au revoir, my friends. A bientôt!
